Empowered to Overcome

All Christians are called to live by the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us and empowers us to overcome sin and lead a godly life. Romans 8:1-14 gives us good advice, but I want to draw our attention to Romans 8:9, 13-14.

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.  But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

Listen to this promise and warning in the next two verses. For if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.  For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

So, does God call us to work in every area of life?  Are we to work out our salvation?  Do we do this on our own.

Philippians 2:12, 13 gives us the answer.

So the, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my preence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

II Peter 1:3 give us these words. His diving power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowelddge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

What a wonderful God we have.  His divine power has given us everything we need for us to work out our own salvation by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Through His Spirit, He has empowered us to become obercomers.
