We have all heard this text so many times, that I dare to not write it out for the mere mention of John 3:16 all reading this post will verbally or mentally start saying these very words of the text. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Two thirds of the way through this text comes a little eight letter word, that word is “believes.” The Greek word is pisteuo which is pronounced pist yoo o. The authorized version of the King James Bible renders this word believe with a reference to the term “Commit unto” or “be committed unto”. There is even one more meaning of this word “believe” which I really like, “be commit to one’s trust” or “commit to one’s trust”
So with these references to the word believe in mind, let’s look at the text again. “For God so loved the world that He gave the most precious possession he had, His Son. Who was also willing to give completely of himself on our behalf that whoever commits themselves to God’s trust, completely entrusting themselves to God’s care should not perish, but have everlasting life.
So the question before us is, “Have we fully committed ourselves, completely entrusting our lives in God’s hands that we might not perish, but have everlasting life? Let us answer in the affirmative. We have fully and completely entrusted out lives to the only God that lives and gave His all that we might gain all!
