Jesus on the crossThe Ultimate Reality Show

By Kim Larsen

Isaiah 42:1-4

Behold! My servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom my soul delights ! I have put My Spirit upon Him, He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street, A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench. He will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail or be discouraged. Till He has established justice in the earth.

Have you seen those reality shows where a man is flown to a remote area and is stripped of all his clothing and pushed out of the plane with maybe a flint to start a fire or perhaps a knife between his teeth, and he has to survive in the jungle for a month? Yes, admit it, you have watched these survival programs week after week, year after year. Did you realize that this is not new? According to Isaiah 42:1-4 Jesus was the Ultimate Reality Survivor! He was stripped of His position, wealth, and Title, thrust into a world where only a few were aware that He was coming or that He even existed. He had to come as a babe and grow up into his reality. And to make his reality even more difficult, God also set boundaries on how He could share His mission and with whom. “In His life no self assertion was to be mingled. The homage which the World gave to position, to wealth, and to talent was to be foreign to the Son of God. None of the means that men employ to win allegiance or to command homage was the Messiah to use. The very best part of this reality show is at the completion, He wasn’t awarded a million dollars. He did it all just for love! He is the Ultimate Survivor, who gave humankind His immunity idol. His story is the Ultimate Amazing Race! There will be a Final Rose Ceremony when He comes to claim his prize. Us…. We are the prize. Who knew?

  1. Really nice post with great contemporary references! (Any coincidence that this is posted on Wednesday which is “Survivor” night on TV?!?) Anyway, great job!

    1. Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I will pass the message along to Kim. When Kim and I were talking about this the other day, she didn’t indicate it had any reference to the TV reality show. She told me this came to her while eating breakfast early last Saturday morning.
Thanks for your comment, hope you will continue to enjoy all the posts.
      Pastor Lester
