DeerWhere is Your God?

The world asks the question, “where is your God? If your God is as powerful as you say He is, where is He? Why do we not see this God that you claim to be so powerful?” It is an honest question and one that certainly deserves an answer. The question is made more poignant by the fact that all around us is evidence of sin and ungodliness. It appears that there is no leading, no guiding and no direction, instead the world spins as it were, out of control.
For the world to truly see that there is a God, then there needs to be a change. I realize by stating that there needs to be a change many will say; “But I don’t like change.” Change is difficult and sometimes brings about heartache and apprehension for the future.
David the Psalmist penned these words in the forty-third Psalm. “As the deer pants for the water brooks.” Prayerfully contemplating these words, it occurred to me that the reason the world wonders if there is a God is because those that believe in him really haven’t thirsted after a knowledge of God.
Joel chapter one verses nineteen and twenty state: “O LORD, to You I cry out, for fire has devoured the open pastures, and a flame has burned all the trees of the field. The beasts of the field also cry out to you, For the water brooks are dried up and the fire has devoured the open pastures.”
Sin has scorched the earth and dried up many of the sources of water. But the Psalmist writes; “as the deer pants for the water brooks.” David continues by confirming there is a drought in this world, it is a spiritual drought and the reason why the world wonders if there is a God is because those that are supposed to know God best are not panting after living water.
David continues in the first verse of the forty-second Psalm “So, pants my soul for you, O God.” Joel says the earth is scorched and the brooks are dried up, but the Psalmist says, there is still a source of water and that source is the living God.
If we as Christians really truly panted after the true word of God, allowing the character of God to flow out from our lives, lives that are changed by the prayerful study of God’s word then the world would not wonder; “Where is your God, are you sure he even exists?” For, there would be no question of his existence because He would be seen living out in the lives of all those that pants for, longs for and daily searches for the living water that flows from the throne of God.
Amen
