Psalm 17:1, 6-9

David, oh to have the ability to pray as David prayed. Oh, to have the ability to love God as David did, for all around the cares of the world are pressing around about me. So David cries out: “Hear a just cause, O LORD, Attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.”

David must have had great trust for he said: “I have cried upon You, for you will hear me O God; Incline your ear to me and hear my speech. Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.”

All through the Bible is this question, can God be trusted is asked and time after time the answer is always, Yes.! Then why is it that all around me the enemy seems to be pressing in? Why am I faced with temptation and trial?

There is a song that comes to mind that has always given me comfort and hope. It starts with “Day by day, and with each passing moment, Strength I find to meet my trials here; Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause to worry or for fear. He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure, Gives unto each day what He deems best, lovingly its part of pain and pleasure, Mingling toil with peace and rest.”

I can imagine David as he penned the words of Psalm 17 feeling the assurance that God was near and that God would give him victory for placing his trust in God.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me. With a special mercy for each hour, All my cars he fain would bear and cheer me, He whose name is Counsellor and pow’r. The protection of His child and treasure is a charge that on Himself He laid; As thy days, they strength shall be in measure, This the pledge to me H made.

For you see in the garden when our first parents sinned God said, do not fear. I have a plan, its cost is great but its rewards are great. It will cost Me My son, and for you I will do this for all I want is to be with you, my earth children.

For you and me what does this cost? It cost us nothing except that we trust in God. Then we can pray

Help me thin, in every tribulation, so to trust Thy promises, O Lord that I lose not faith’s sweet consolation, offered me with thy holy Word. Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, E’er to take, as from a father’s hand One by one, the days the moments fleeting till with Christ the Lord I stand.

As the Sabbath approaches, may our every thought be about the Father’s care, for the Father’s love, that He longed to be with his children that he said, Day by Day I will care for you and with each passing moment, I will give you strength. I will be with you daily and give my mercy each hour. All your cares I will take upon My shoulders and in each tribulation I will stand in your place. And with our trust in Him He has offered each of us a seat on His throne in heaven. Amen.
