via Daily Prompt: Descend It seems that each one of us wants to climb the social or corporate ladder. It seems we spend a life time dreaming, planning and scheming on how to make it to the top. Yet it seems the quick I attempt to climb the ladder I find myself descending on the ladder.
In Matthew chapter five verses two thru 12 are the verses we often call the beatitudes. When I look at them, they are not qualities the world would consider we should have in order to climb the social or corporate ladder. For the world, people that have these qualities are often seen as descending much faster than they can possibly climb.
Yet these are all qualities God feels are important. It is as though God is saying, “By having these qualities you will Descend into my love and abide with me always.” It is just so anti cultural that we feel it is unnatural to want to attain these attitudes spoken of in the beatitudes.
But these attitudes are important if we want to see the ultimate Descend. What is the ultimate descend? It is when Christ will descend in clouds of glory and with a loud voice call his children, his faithful children who were willing to descend to self and take up these qualities in the beatitudes that exemplify God’s character.
Let us daily decided to descend to self that we might ascend into the clouds of glory that have descended from heaven to take us home, home to our heavenly Father.
