Real Life X-files

Have you ever heard of spontaneous human combustion? Back in the 70’s I remember hearing about it. It was quite a “thing”. For some still unknown reason, people would just burst into flames and burn to ash. They would be found inside their home, with a burnt area around the body, the room intact. It was so weird. I don’t know why I thought of that this morning, I guess I haven’t heard of it for a very long time, so I googled it. The last case was in 2011. It is still a mystery how a body that is 70% water can burn so hot that it not only burns but turns to ash…. That’s hot! It is a very strange phenomenon.
The Bible speaks of a strange incident too. Hebrews 11:5-6 says, “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death, and was not found because God had taken him, for before he was taken he had this testimony that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So, apparently people looked for Enoch after he went missing. He could not be found. Enoch lived a righteous life every day. 365 days a year. The Genesis account reveals that Enoch was 365 years old when he was taken. Isn’t it interesting that he was the same age as the number of days in a year? He was a diligent seeker of God daily. Wouldn’t you love to have it said of you that God was pleased with you? I think that we all feel that way deep down. Faith and diligent seeking after God is the key. We must believe that Jesus came to our sinful world, lived a perfect sinless life, and then laid down his life for us, paying the debt that we could not pay. He took our place by dying the death that we deserved so that we could have life that we don’t deserve. We can have what Enoch had. We can have Christ as our constant companion. Enoch walked with God and when assailed by the tempter, he could talk with God about it. He had no “It is written”, as we have but he had a knowledge of his heavenly companion. He knew love. A spontaneous human combustible love!
