Vertical Hold
by Kim Larsen
Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the just is like the shining sun that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”
Character building is the most important work ever entrusted to human beings, and never before was its diligent study so important as now. Never was any previous generation called to meet issues so momentous , never before were young men and young women confronted by perils as confront them today. Ed 225
I promised myself that I would never do this….but when I was a kid we were able to watch a little bit of television every now and then. It was not the way it is today, the television picture was black and white, and we only had one station. The programming started about 7 am and finished sometime after 10:00 pm. The rest of the time the picture was on a test screen of some sort. When there was nothing on that we wanted to watch we would turn it off! Crazy, I know. The most irritating thing was when the picture would roll, over and over and over again. There was a knob on the back of the television called a vertical hold button, and if you turned it ever so slightly it would stop the roll. It was so great when it worked.
I was thinking how neat it would be if we had a vertical hold button. We live in a crazy, busy, mixed up world and sometimes we get so caught up in it that we only think about what’s happening around us. We work for a better car, or more toys in the garage, new furniture or nice clothes. We get deeper into debt, so we have to work harder. Our relationship with God suffers. We don’t stop and think about what He is preparing for us, what it will be like to see Him face to face. No more tears, no more death, no more sleepless nights to just name a few. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of getting up and having to make a living. I would much rather spend my time with Jesus.
We need to reset our minds frequently during the day. When we get upset, or need help we need to remember the vertical hold. Time is growing short, the only thing we will take to heaven is our character, and now is the time to perfect it. I encourage you to remember the vertical hold and use it every day. Stay on the path, God is faithful to finish the work that He has started in you!
