Our Words are Powerful
by Kim Larsen
Psalm 141:3,4 “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not incline my heart to any evil thing. To practice wicked works with men who work iniquity, And do not let me eat of their delicacies.”
Every day of life is filled with responsibilities that we must carry. Every day our words and actions are seen and heard by our coworkers. How important it is that we watch what we say and step carefully. One thoughtless comment, one sideways look may cause someone to misunderstand us. We cannot gather up the thoughts that we have planted in someone’s mind. On the other hand, if by our example we help others in the development of good principles, we give them power to do good things like a domino effect. We will never know the far reaching effect of our unconscious influence. The true follower of Jesus strengthens the good purposes of everyone he or she meets. Before an unbelieving, sin loving world they show the power of God’s grace and the perfection of His character.
This theory is proven every day right before us as we watch the news. People remember things from years ago, they keep silent until the time is right and then they recall the events, with description. Words and actions do matter. Who we associate with does matter. Our business dealings and practices should always be forthright and transparent. I have an acquaintance who is going through some really tough times right now. All of the mistakes that he may have made will be brought into the light for all to see. What a humbling experience is before him. We all will have that day when our life will be on display. When this life is done, only what’s done for Christ will last. The rest is wood, hay, and stubble. Let’s make a habit of asking God to direct our thoughts, our words, and our actions each day that The Holy Spirit will guide our appointments with others.
Every Believer in Christ Jesus should pray for full expression of the fruits of the Spirit as seen in Galatians 5:22. I am presently as The Lord for Self-control Control.
