Deal Bountifully With Your Servant

Down but Not Out

Daleth

25 “My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your words.

26 I have declared my ways, and You answered ; Teach me Your Statutes.

27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on your wonderful works.

28 My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.

29 Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously.

30 I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.

31 I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame!

32 I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.

Often we find ourselves up beat and happy one moment, then down and despondent the next.  From the high the psalmist felt in our last section, he now finds himself down, fallen as it were, his face in the dirt.

You see the enemy attacks us harder when we are emotionally high than he does when we are down.  And when we are feeling good, that is the time we often relax, taking our eye off the mark.  We must be as watchful after the victory as we were before the battle. Like the Psalmist we should submit ourselves to prayer.

In my despair You have heard me, but not only have You heard me You have answered me.  In my prayer I ask You to teach me Your statues and make me understand the way of Your precepts.  Strengthen me for I am weak which causes me to suffer.  Teach me to weep over my enemies and not glory in their despair.

I pray for the strength to continue to live, to continue to learn, to fully surrender to your will till I can love my enemies as you have continued to love me.

Therefore LORD I cling to your testimonies your precepts and Your law.  I ask you to defend me before my enemies for I do not want to look bad in your eyes or make you look bad in the eyes of others.  Enlarge my heart so I may love You more for those that are filled with anxiety and doubt are not able to enjoy the full blessings of heaven.  My LORD I pray that you will completely fill my every thought and desire with nothing but You which will keep me from despair.
