He Is Our Peace

Philippians 4:6,7; ”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Where do I begin? I have unearthed some sweet truths this week that I have been trying to put into a heap and sift through like gold! It seems that the more I sift, the greater the pile becomes. I began looking into the simple word Peace. It’s something that the entire world is searching for. It’s on the lips of every reporter on the news, it’s repeated with fervor from our young people. We want peace in our world. We want peace in our minds, countless adds are for restful sleep, for anxiety, for depression. Our small children are stressed out in elementary school. How do we get peace?

The actual word peace in the Hebrew is “eirene “, which is a primary verb (to join) by implication prosperity, quietness, rest, set at one again. Atonement is another word for peace. To make one again. There is only one Person who can give peace by making atonement. Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace, came to this lost, sinful world to make atonement for us that we might have peace with God, to have peace of mind, to have peace and quiet, to Rest In Peace, to then become peacemakers, to make peace not war. There is no quick pill for this, we can’t fix it ourselves. In fact, there is nothing in ourselves that we can do to obtain this peace except for one thing. Surrender.

Isaiah 57:19-21 tells us, “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him that is near, says the Lord, And I will heal him. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.”

There will not be world peace, until Jesus comes back again. The world is at enmity with God. In the heart of Christ, where reigned perfect harmony with a God there was perfect peace. He was never elated by applause, nor dejected by censure or disappointment. Amid the greatest opposition and the most cruel treatment he was still of good courage. But many of His followers have an anxious, troubled heart because they are afraid to trust themselves with God. They do not make a complete surrender to Him for they shrink from the consequences that such a surrender may involve. Unless we do make this surrender we cannot find peace.

In our verse at the beginning, we read that the peace of God can guard our hearts. The thought here in the Hebrew is to preserve us for the attainment of something. He wants us to attain an amazing life hidden in Christ, at peace, in life and in death.

He is our peace. Will you give up trying to control your life and let go and let God give you peace?

Jeremiah 33:6 says “ Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.”
