In Heaven Your Word is Settled
ל Lamed
89 Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You establish the earth, and it abides.
91 They continue this day according to Your ordinances, For all are Your servants.
92 Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction.
93 I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life.
94 I am Yours, save me; For I have sought Your precepts.
95 The wicked wait for me to destroy me, But I will consider Your testimonies.
96 I have seen the consummation of all perfection, But Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Since Eve and then Adam sinned the teachings of mankind are continually changing. They never remain consistent for mankind when left to themselves will always mold their teachings to fit their perceived needs. The Psalmist is saying in heaven God’s word is settled, it is sure, certain and never changing. The same is true of his teachings here on earth. Although man attempts to change them, God’s law and his teachings will never fail or change.
We see this in the consistency of nature even though nature is marred by sin. This assures each of us that God is faithful in his dealings with all earths children. God is faithful to his promises in all ages and at all times and in all places.
God’s ordinances or judgements, or decision in heaven and earth are from the Creator, from the mightiest creature to the minutes insect all answer to their creator. Even the sun to the smallest atom are all obedient to the Omnipotent God.
Therefore, King David and each of us can take comfort and receive hope afresh by the assurance that what God has stated will happen to the righteous and the wicked will indeed happen by the divine providence of the Father through His Son Christ Jesus. Therefore the same word that preserves the heavens and the earth will preserve those who are faithful and true to their God and their creator.
Never forget that after we have once felt the power of God’s Word we should never go back on our experiences. For forgetfulness of God’s leading is displeasing to God and brings discouragement to us. We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us.
Therefore, since I refuse to go back to the way I was, I am yours oh God to do with me as you will. To mold me and shape me into something that will be of service to you. Because the power in the Word enabled the psalmist to be victorious over all the plots of his enemies, If the enemy of souls is unable to detract our minds from thinking and meditating upon the Holy Word, he will be unsuccessful in his warfare against each of us.
Oh, LORD complete me, finish in me Your good works. Set up the boundaries you wish to set before me and open the way in which I should walk because there is no end to the treasures to be found when I contemplate the great truths contained in Your law. Never can I exhaust its theme for it is like a fountain that never runs dry. It is a perfect representation of Your Divine holiness. It is then we are led to acknowledge how imperfect we are when we judge our lives by its exalted standards. Yet where I fail, Christ makes up the difference, which does not give me a license to do as I please, but an incentive to strive all the more to be like my Creator and Saviour.
