For the children of Israel, it was a time of transition. They were on the doorstep of the promised land, and Moses their leader of the past 40 years was soon to pass away. Joshua was about to become their leader. It was a time of uncertainty
Moses stood before the people and spoke these words: Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One, who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
At the end of every year we close the door on what was and open the door of the New Year. Most of us face the coming year with uncertainty and with fear. Who knows what lies for us beyond that door.
Moses understood this when talking to the children of Israel and Jesus understands what we are going through at the beginning of a new year. The words Moses spoke and penned nearly 3500 years ago are as much for us today as it was for the Israelites of old. Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
As we embark upon this New Year, let us always be mindful of the fact that Christ goes with us through the power of the Holy Spirit. He is there to give us strength and courage. He asks us not to be fearful of them or anything around us. For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you. And as He promised the Israelites and His disciples, I will not leave you nor forsake you for where you are I AM.
