Brothers to Sinners and Saints
Every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. 1 John 4:7.
In all who suffer for My name, said Jesus, you are to recognize Me. As you would minister to Me, so you are to minister to them. This is the evidence that you are My disciples.
All who have been born into the heavenly family are in a special sense the brethren of our Lord. The love of Christ binds together the members of His family, and wherever that love is made manifest there the divine relationship is revealed. “Every one that loveth is born of God, and knows God” (1 John 4:7).
Those whom Christ commends in the judgment may have known little of theology, but they have cherished His principles. Through the influence of the divine Spirit they have been a blessing to those about them. Even among the heathen are those who have cherished the spirit of kindness; before the words of life had fallen upon their ears, they have befriended the missionaries, even ministering to them at the peril of their own lives. Among the heathen are those who worship God ignorantly, those to whom the light is never brought by human instrumentality, yet they will not perish. Though ignorant of the written law of God, they have heard His voice speaking to them in nature, and have done the things that the law required. Their works are evidence that the Holy Spirit has touched their hearts, and they are recognized as the children of God.
How surprised and gladdened will be the lowly among the nations, and among the heathen, to hear from the lips of the Saviour, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”! How glad will be the heart of Infinite Love as His followers look up with surprise and joy at His words of approval!
But not to any class is Christ’s love restricted. He identifies Himself with every child of humanity. That we might become members of the heavenly family, He became a member of the earthly family. He is the Son of man, and thus a brother to every son and daughter of Adam. His followers are not to feel themselves detached from the perishing world around them. They are a part of the great web of humanity; and Heaven looks upon them as brothers to sinners as well as to saints. The fallen, the erring, and the sinful, Christ’s love embraces; and every deed of kindness done to uplift a fallen soul, every act of mercy, is accepted as done to Him

Daniel 7:13,14 says, “I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming in the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom. That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.” Hope! We need to have some of it at this moment in history before the events of the world destroy our peace!
I ran across this verse yesterday while I was researching another topic and could not get it out of my mind, so we must dig a little deeper. By His life and His death, Christ has achieved even more than recovery from the ruin brought through sin. It was Satan’s intent to bring about an eternal separation between God and man: but in Christ we become more closely united to a God than if we had never fallen. In taking our nature, the Saviour has bound Himself to humanity by a tie that is never to be broken. We have a Saviour who is closer than a brother. This reminds me of an ongoing argument that my niece and I had, my sister being 25 years older than myself, had children that were my age. We would bicker just like siblings and one of our most bickered about topics was who was closer to my sister, me, a sister or her the daughter. I know it sounds ridiculous, but remember this was long before cell phones and wifi. We had nothing else to do but talk to each other and had no way of googling it! It wasn’t until much later in life that we were laughing about it and someone said, that’s an easy question sisters share more DNA than offspring . Sisters are closer!! We have a Saviour who is also our brother. Can you even imagine this? God gave us His very own Son to become one of us. A human. Can you see the enemy desperate to take the life of Jesus as a baby, and certainly before He could give up His life for us at the cross? And when he was crucified, Satan thought for a moment that he had won , only to realize that the battle had been won by Christ. Check! And when he rose from the dead, Check! Micah 4:7 says, “I will make the lame a remnant and the outcast a strong nation so the Lord will reign over them in mount Zion.”
Satan in his efforts to deceive and tempt our race had thought to frustrate the divine plan in man’s creation but Christ now asks that this plan be carried into effect as if man had never fallen. He asks for His people not only pardon and justification full and complete, but a share in His glory and a seat upon His throne!
Oh the love and mercy of the God that we serve, we certainly don’t deserve it, but I’m so thrilled that He has promised it. Checkmate!
